A little info about organic farming:

  • In organic farming, weeds are controlled mechanically, which requires more working hours.

  • No pesticides of any kind are allowed, nor artificial fertilizers.

  • In organic farming, the number of soil organisms increases, making the soil airy and alive. Inoculated seeds are also used to boost the microbes.

  • In grain fields, catch crops and soil-improving plants are grown as cover crops.

  • Through a rotating crop sequence, a well-planned cultivation plan and its monitoring, the best possible growing conditions are built up in the fields.

  • Organic farming is strictly supervised. Rosas ekogård is subject to both the regular organic inspection (FI-EKO-101) and the food organic inspection (FI-EKO-201).

  • Nowadays, satellite monitoring is also used to track the fields.

  • Organic farms are certified; our farm’s organic certificate number is:

FI-EKO-101.246-0006579.2025.001.

About Us

Rosas Ekogård

Rosas Ekogård is a small organic farm in Lapinjärvi, Southern Finland. We grow oats, heritage wheat / biodiversity wheat, heritage rye, emmer wheat, spelt, and rapeseed. Small-scale processing on the farm began in 2026. All our products sold in shops and through REKO are 100% processed on the farm (dried, sorted, dehulled, milled, and packaged)! This way, unnecessary transport is avoided. Our cold-pressed organic rapeseed oil is also pressed and bottled on the farm!

We transitioned to organic farming in 2018. We haven’t regretted it for a second! In fact, we returned to the cultivation methods our ancestors once used—not even that long ago! Without any chemicals, hormones, or artificial fertilizers! And the fields are thriving! We try in every way to support biological diversity, concerning both animals and plants. In practice, this means, among other things, game fields, flower meadows, and protecting birds and insects. Our pet sheep Leenu (13 years), Minttu (5 years), Malin (5 years), and Salvia (14 years) help by grazing on the meadow.

We have been farming since 1990, so this is our 37th growing season. We transitioned to organic farming in 2018, so this is our 9th organic season.

FAQ

Is the farm officially an organic farm?

Yes, our farm is a certified organic farm under the supervision of the Finnish Food Authority. A farm visit and inspection are conducted once a year, at which time the organic certificate is renewed for the following year. In between, the fields are monitored via satellite 24/7! We have two inspection visits per year because we are also part of food control. The inspection visits are fee-based.
